I am actress, painter and sculptor. Since I can remember I am allured by the creative potential acting can give you. What I find most difficult and interesting: You have to know yourself in order to be able to become someone else! Acting is like a bitter-sweet and never-ending journey around your personal strengths and weaknesses and so is the creation of a doll with a special aura. I connected both, my experience in performing arts and visual arts, very early in order to create art that touches and fascinates people, whether they saw me on stage or my sculptures in my studio. Just like I was experimenting with different ways of acting, I loved and still adore trying out different materials for my sculptural work. And it was also the question of movement and statics – a question so present in acting – that brought me closer to the inspiring world of ball-jointed dolls and porcelain.

To bring to life charismatic dolls that look like human beings and have their own special personality soon became a major aim of mine. Most of all I want to create aesthetic male dolls: Beautiful heroes who enchant and have a story to tell. Whenever I am working on a new doll I have to push myself to limits again. What is this porcelain-guy like? What did happen to him and what will happen next? Those are the questions that lead me to a unique understanding of the piece of art I am working with. I often have the impression that the porcelain creature becomes independent soon after leaving its casting mould, so that my work is always full of surprises. That’s how it feels to me, anyway.
